Can wisdom teeth be treated from cavities?
A dentist put 2 fillings on 2 of my wisdom teeth. Because he said I had cavities. Is this right? Can wisdom teeth be treated like any other tooth?

Sure,wisdom teeth are actually real teeth. They are especially helpful if you have lost other teeth, to retain the structure of your teeth, plus, if you are not having problems with them, such as impaction, you can continue to keep them .

I have had cavities before but god that was when i was like 5 years old. they have to do 2 different shots cause they are both in the back of my mouth on opposite sides. will it hurt during it? How long will i be in pain afterwards? any swelling? Will it hurt after the numbing pain goes away to eat solid foods?

I took my boys to the dentist and found out they both have some cavities and will cost almost 100/cavitiy to be filled. Just for their health, I want to know if it is okay and cause no health risk if they don't have it filled. Fillings on baby teeth seems like a lost cause because they will lose them soon. Are there certain teeth like molars that I should go ahead and have filled? I don't want them to be in pain or have health problems. Anyone knowledgeable in this area? Help!!

His anxiety has dropped now that he sees that the dentist is not always a scary place to be. We are working on better oral hygiene to keep it that way. Now, we drive an hour just to see a special pediatric dentist that works with children specifically. They use gas in the office for fillings and are very kid friendly. It's worth the hour drive, trust me.
Take into account the age of your kids and how long they will have those baby teeth in there. Find a good understanding dentist and be honest, ask questions. If it's a money issue, tell them. They will figure the best way for both you and your child to get through this. I know how it is.

Last time I went to get my tooth drilled on it took a long time and was painful. The dentist gave me Xanax and laughing gas also....neither helped me. I was shaking so bad on the dentists chair. Do you have any suggestions on how to get thru the next two cavities I have?

You should find a dentist that promotes pain free dentistry. It is not really pain free of course but they tend to help those of us with more sensitive mouths/teeth. Good luck.

I'd talk it over with your family doctor and see if he can put you on a serious tranquilizer for the day. also, I'd switch to nitrous instead of laughing gas. Nitrous will definitely work, providing you don't breathe through your mouth.
Reply:first be sure the dentist knows you are nervous, a good dentist will allow extra time to be sure the meds are working and you are calm. laughing gas stopped working for me when i was 9 , they use Novocaine or some other shot to numb me and i need 2 doses. some of us have very sensitive nerves and require a little more care for dental work. do not be afraid to talk to the dentist. if he seems like he doesn't care change dentists, many advertise they specialize in nervous patients.

There are several anesthetics that can be used. Lower back teeth are the hardest spot in the whole body to numb. Anesthesiologists hate to do that.
I prescribe Valium starting the day before the appointment so you don't get so worried. Talk to him about that.
If all else fails - conscious sedation - which is an IV. Its not general anesthesia like a hospital major surgery.

If your nervous about the shot just do this take control over your thoughts and while the dentist administers the shot close your eyes (breath in) through your mouth (and out your nose) and tap your finger on your leg. this will distract you from yourself!!!!! once the tooth is numb just relax and go with it . I'm sure it will all be over before you know it and you will no longer have decay on your beautiful little pearls.. then keep up on your caring for them everyday. floss brush %26amp; floss some more. YOU be Fine without any meds, just dont pump yourself up to be scared. there's truely no reason you'll be better for it in 30-45 mins there after..yeah. Smile ... but if you feel that the dentist is to agressive then find someone else with a gental hand.

I have to have my dentist give me Novocaine when he works on my mouth. Since it numbs your mouth and you can't feel what he's doing, the nervousness goes away almost totally. If that still doesn't work, talk to him about getting an anesthetic. Getting fillings may not be a bad enough reason to use them though.

Will it hurt to have 2 cavities filled? sooo sorry but please read?

The numbing shots will hurt more than the filling. There will be a sensation of pressure for a day, but that's it. If your illness includes infection, the dentist probably won't do it.

Depending on the extent of the cavity and the type of repair need you could have some discomfort afterwards for a few days. A cavity repair is generally considered trauma to the tooth. If you don't improve after a few days you might consider calling the office to have the "bite" of the tooth checked since if it is off this can cause discomfort too.

You need to see a dentist regularly, and put in the effort of brushing and flossing regularly. It really takes very little time. Maybe as much as you spent here posting this question. Your dental health is also tied closely to your general health and you risk heart disease and other infections from diseased teeth, as well as gum disease, bleeding gums and eventual tooth loss. brushing your teeth is good hygene.. and it prevents other caviities from getting worse.. but cavities are basically from the foods you eat... which is why you brush it off.. so you dont get cavities.
you should really take care of your teeth and if you dont brush it will build up bactiera which gives you horrrible breath.
pleasee tell me this is a hypothetical question and you actually brush your teeth.
Reply:David,,,brushing with floride toothpaste is good to slow decay,,,,stop eating foods high in carbs, sugars and salts (as these foods will speed up the decay process). And most of all,,,FOR GOD SAKE,,go to the dentist and get your teeth problems under control. If you can't afford it,,,google 'freedentist',,and you will be able to find out about places that will do low cost or even free dentistry (depending on your situation).
they are called 'dental camps'.....and the wait is ussually very long,,,so hurry and get on a waiting list,,,or borrow some money and have your dental problems fixed,,,befor you have to grind all your food to eat.

Reply:from experience it help alot if u stop brushing then u might as well stop eating rturth is u need to brush even if ur teeth are falling out cuz it will help them griowe there strength and bring ur enamel and nerves back from, further pain and yea itl decrese cavity productoin big time and help tooth decay loss trust me i know cuz if u stop brushing wich i thought the same thing then ui couldnt eat cuz the pain was un barable then i strted burshing and whoa the pain went away i got couple root canals then it was all good hope it helps ne uno 11111111111111
Reply:I had a friend who thought her teeth were too bad to put right too. You'll be surprised, visit the dentist and get some treatment, continue to do what you can to help stop further damage. You need to gently brush your gums too to stop gum disease and stimulate blood flow to the gums.
I don't know whether you have free treatment in your country, in the UK we are lucky if your not working you can get treatment. Try to find out if you have any dentisits who treat those on lower incomes, sometimes they have a special practice where you can go on certain days of the week/evening etc.
Good luck mate, don't give up on your teeth altogether!
