First time with cavities!?

Well I went to the denist today and found out that I had 7 cavities. I have never had any cavities before and am nervous about getting them filled. Do they fill them all at the same time? Is laughing gas better than novacane. Right now I'm leaning more towards using the laughing gas becuase I don't like needles.

Reply:they di dn't gas me at all (I was like you, NEVER had cavities and then when i was 19 suddenly kept getting them)


They just scrape it out, smooth it out, fill it in, smooth it off.. viola. Quick and painless. Unless it is a really deep one...
Reply:the novicane will hurt for a moment but you can request that the dentist inject it very slowly to reduce the pain. as far as the needles go, it can not be helped. the gas is used only for kids.
Reply:I had my teeth before filled don't worry. It doesn't hurt they like paint it with numbing stuff and do the rest. It has a bitter taste though so be warned. Also they will probably tell you about laying off sugar food and stuff like that.
Reply:Depends. They usually do one side of your mouth at a time. Ya don't want to be biting yourself and not knowing it. If this is your first visit, they might do half one time and half the next visit. It really depends. You have never had work done, so they may want to break you in easy ;) Good luck. Novocaine isn't that bad. I have never had gas, though, my daughter did and she did great. No worries. Get them taken care of sooner rather than later.
Reply:Well heres the deal. I had to get 2 cavities filled around 2 months ago. It was my first time and I was so nervous. But once you get that gas on you its crazy its like you dont even care anymore. But then they do give you novacane but just close your eyes and you wont feel a thing at all trust me. Tomorrow im going to get 2 caps put on while having my teeth ground down and im not to worried because im getting gas and novicane but you shouldnt worry at all :)
Reply:Gas or not, you will still get novacaine. You shouldn't worry, I had my first cavitiy filled when I was seven and I just told myself that if I closed my eyes and thought about something else I would be fine and I was. The injection will be done after an anesthetic cream in rubbed on the gum, you wont feel the needle go in and the it will be a 5 second sting. I doubt they will do them all at once.
