I brush, floss, use mouth rinse and still am getting cavities, please help!?

Up till college I never had cavities. However I had a few through my first two years at college. Two dental visits ago in the spring and I was fine, no problems and I was really excited. This winter I got a new dentist and he tells me I have a ton of cavities! My sister also went in and he told her that she had like 7. So I am not sure if this guy is not credible or the old dentist was bad. I brushed twice a day and flossed. Also during those six months I significantly cut down on my drinking of soda, juice and gatorade. I couldn't believe it, I went in thinking I would be fine because I was treating my teeth even better, and I end up with a ton of cavities. Now I started using Act mouthwash before I go to bed and this special tooth strengthening paste my dentist gave me. However I am still afraid that next time I go in I'm going to have cavities again. What should I do?? I really want to keep the rest of my teeth.

just by brushing, flossing %26amp; using mouth washes does not make you safe from cavities. You need to go for regular check ups with your dentist. Cavties can form in pits %26amp; fissers which the brush cannot clean.
Reply:I would get a second opinion. I had a similar situation i was seeing a dentist and told me i had a cavities id idnt beleive this guy so i went else where and i came out with no cavities.Ive never had a prob with my teeth and im 26 years old now. Makes me wonder if the first dentist was jsut out to get money from my dental insurance. Seek a second opinion to make sure.
Reply:you might want to ask for sealants. dentists normally give them to kids to prevent cavities. all it is, is a thin coating over the occlusals or tops of the posterior teeth.
