Ugh. Why do I have so many cavities?

Well. My first question is: Are bad teeth hereditary? My mom has really really bad teeth. As well as my brother. So are my bad teeth hereditary? When I was 12 or so I had 8 cavities when I went to the dentist. Now I'm 16 and my most recent check up said I had 16 cavities. I brush my teeth every day. At least twice. I just don't get it. It's really pissing me off. Can people have more sensitive teeth than others?

Ugh. Why do I have so many cavities?
JIMMY,

CAVITIES ARE FORMED BY CERTAIN TYPES OF BACTERIA AND CAVITIES CAN ALSO BE FROM INCOMPLETE BRUSHING.
Reply:I can soooo relate. I brush 3 times a day and floss twice a day.

My dentist said it can be hereditary. For me, I have alot of acid build up in my mouth. Acid erodes the enamel on your teeth. Some people have a higher then normal acid level in thier mouth.

I never drink pop, or tea, or anything in the way of excessive sweets. Actually I'm a fitness freak, and run 7kms three times a week/eat healthy.

As long as you are brushing %26amp; flossing properly your teeth should be healthy. So if your like me then you sadly you have the genetic curse.

My dentist did give me a orange coloured protective mouth rinse though. It helps form a barrier on your enamel and prevents acid erosion. I would ask your doc about a protective rinse.

**Once acid erodes the enamel on your teeth the dentin may be exposed. Dentin is easily attacked by bacteria and you are more likely to have cavities. **So to the guy below, things are not always black and white, try reading answers and understanding them.
