Swollen Cheek After Having Cavities Filled?

I went to the dentist last Wednesday and had 4 cavities filled (2 on the upper left and 2 on the upper right). The numbness took a while to wear off but after that, my right cheek was swollen. I called the dentist back on Friday, and they said just to take some tylenol. The swelling has gone down some over the weekend, but my cheek is still swollen. It has been 5 days and my cheek is still swollen. It feels like the dentist injected the shot into my cheek as well as in my gums. He actually gave me mulitple shots in my gums, usually I've just had 2 shots in my gums, not like 5 on one side. I called the dentist back today, but they would not respond. The receptionist would not let me talk to a dentist at first, and when I talked to the dentist, he said he had never heard of this before and said that I must be lieing and said that I should go to a shrink.

What should I do? I am away on a trip and cant go to the office to talk to them directly.

I would see another dentist as soon as you can. This guy is jerk and very unprofessional. Is he an American?

Sometimes the shots will cause this to happen. When the medication is injected to quickly it tears the tissue. This causes the swelling. If it is on the upper, or maxilla, it can be even worse due to the density of the tissue.

He could have perforated the wall of a tooth. This is not a good thing.

See another dentist. Make sure he or she is not an insurance dentist at some clinic. Then report the first to the ADA. American Dental Asso. He is an ASSO without the O. Get my drift? What he did was against the ethics of the ADA, and ask them who to report him to in your state. If this gets worse I would contact a lawyer.

And see another dentist BEFORE you board a plane. Tooth problems can get a thousand time worse in the air. It has to do with cabin pressure and the internal pressure of the tooth involved.
Reply:You may have bitten your cheek while you were numb. This is quite common, and should go down in about a week.
