Question on cavities?

Last time I went to the dentist, they found 2 cavities. He cleaned them and told me that I could come back anytime to get them filled. Problem is, we've been having some problems with money so I haven't been able to come back til now(couple months after). I feel no pain, can't see the cavity, and have been taking pretty good care of my teeth. Is there still a possibility that because of how long I've had to wait, my teeth will be in really bad condition and require further treatment?

By the time you feel pain, it's too late. It takes a very deep cavity to cause pain, and by then the nerve is getting inflammed and starting to die. When that happens, you need a root canal then a post and a crown-- $2000+.





That's why it makes much more sense to spend a couple hundred to get fillings while the cavities are small, rather than wait until it gets so severe that you got to spend much more money to fix it.





If the cavities are small, you do have some time to get it fixed. That doesn't mean you can procrastinate and wait a year though. The sooner the better.

But I think all cavities need to be filled..some day it may get infected and then you may need RCT " Root canal treatment" which will cost you double the amount you need to pay for a filling.


after a root canal treatment you may need a crown, and it is not cheap.

Reply:Unfortunately, teeth do not heal them self......they only get worse. The longer you wait the possibility of further decay is there, good home care helps but will not cure your problem the sooner restored the better and the less involved it will be therefore the less expensive. Good Luck

IF THE DENTIST CLEANED OUT SOME OF THE DECAY W/O ACTUALLY DOING A FILLING,THEN THE CAVITIES MUST HAVE BEEN SMALL ENOUGH NOT TO BE A CAUSE OF GREAT CONCERN.


IF YOU KEEP THEM CLEAN BY BRUSHING, FLOSSING AND SWISHING WITH A FLUORIDE RINSE, THEN THEY WILL BE STABLE UNTIL YOUR DENTIST FILLS THEM.
Reply:Once you get a cavity, the teeth cannot heal on its own. You have to get them filled. Leaving it will just make it worse, you will need to get more done, which means more money and more pain. Even if you've been taking good care of your teeth, you will have to go see a dentist as soon as possible, because cavities can lead to root canals and brain damage, which will of course cost you much more. You really need to see your dentist soon. Good Luck.
Reply:There is a missing piece out of them where the dentist drilled your tooth. If you don't get it filled then it will loose support and eventually crumble. So if I were you I would get them filled and take extra good care of them after that to prevent future cavities. Try switching to Crest regular. I have been using it since I was little and have no cavities at all.
