Cavities in front teeth?

I went to the dentist yesterday and found out I need some fillings in my back teeth which I expected, but the dentist says I've got cavities on the back of two of my front teeth that I need to get filled as well. I didn't even know you could get cavities on your front teeth - how does that happen?

What happens when you need to get a filling in a front tooth? Does it hurt more than other fillings? Does your tooth still look the same after or can you see the filling in it?

Cavities in front teeth?
You can get cavities anywhere from material that sits between the teeth or along the gums. The acidity of saliva also contributes.

The fillings are virtually invisible. The Novocaine can be a little more upsetting due to the location, but it's basically the same tissue.
Reply:If it is in the back of the front teeth you shouldn't be able to see the filling. It hurts to get the Novocaine shot for the front teeth. At least it did for me. My dentist can be heavy handed.
Reply:i don't think its possible, there's no gap 2 fill.
Reply:all teeth can get cavities... you need to brush longer brush at least 4-5 mins... if you can

as for the filling you or no one else will notice I have a friend who has fillings in his front teeth no one notices

good luck
Reply:You can get cavities in any tooth. They're all teeth after all and come in contact with the same things.

Your filling will be in the back of your tooth, no one can see it. If it were in the front, then maybe they could. It's pretty much the same as getting a filling further back, you just have to hold your mouth wider. None of them should hurt when they're being done since you're numbed. I think most of my fillings have been front teeth and I haven't had a problem with them.
Reply:they will look the same....now they dont always use the silvery looking fillings...you can get them in clear color or a match to your tooth color....also why would you not think you could get cavities in your front teeth?...theyre made of the same stuff your back ones are....be sure to get them filled though as it sounds like you worry about your teeth and thats a good thing...im the same way about mine....a healthy smile can say a lot about a person and promotes an overall sense of self confidence
Reply:you can get cavities anywhere as they are affected in the same was the other teeth. same materials in all of your teeth. back teeth are just the ones that get cavities more commonly because you do most of your chewing with those teeth. if you have a breakdown of enamel in the front teeth you can easily get a cavity. i have had a front tooth cavity because my teeth are cavity prone. they're not that unheard of. mine didn't hurt anymore than the others, frankly the others hurt more. it'll depend on the size of the cavity as well, if it's a bigger cavity, or deeper, then yeah there's a chance of more pain. if the cavity is on the back portion(facing the inside of your mouth), they'll most likely use the standard gray/silver amalgam filler. you won't be able to notice unless you hold a mirror up to your mouth and look. however if it's on the front side of the tooth, or penetrates all the way through they will end up using a white filler on the tooth(that's how my dentist explained when i asked in case mine was in the front). they make it so it's not noticable otherwise people would constantly be going "hey you've got something on your tooth"..hope this helped.
Reply:Front teeth will get cavities. It happens slower that for the molars unless there is some damage like chipping, etc. The modern filling are made of appoxy and more or less are invisable if the tinting is done right. On the front or side of the teeth these fillings are usually detectabel on close inspection. You will been to be satisfied by the job your dentist does. If you don't like the job make him try again.

Dentist attend special schools where they learn how to make more money. The best way is to recommend capping teeth

which is very expensive. Make your dentist convince you that this is the only way to go. If you ask the right questions he won't lie to you.
Reply:You can get cavities in all of your teeth. They fill front teeth just like they fill back teeth, numb you up and go from there. they use a tooth colored filling material so you should not be able to tell that you had them filled because it will match the rest of your tooth.
Reply:My husband had a cavity spanning between his two front teeth. He hated to smile. It showed every time he opened his mouth. His dentist just drilled out the rotted part, and filled it in with a kind of caplike filling that he matched to the same color as his own teeth. You can't even tell he ever had a cavity there. So, it is possible and it can be fixed, very well in fact. But you will pay an arm and a leg for it if you don't have good dental insurance. He has insurance and still had to play almost $600.
