Why do I get tooth cavities?

I am 21 and brush my teeth about 10 times a day, if not more, and since turning 18 I have had about 6 cavities and they reoccur on the same 2-3 teeth. I just found 2 more tonight to make it 8 cavities since being 18.....I feel I have healthy gums and mouth, but can not figure out why I continue to get cavities! I drink water constantly and not much sugary/sweet things.

WHAT can I do to STOP getting cavities or at least NOT get them every few months? I thought brushing and staying away from sweets was enough. Please give me any tips or advice you have!

Thank you for answering this

Why do I get tooth cavities?
~perhaps this would be a question that you could pose to your dentist. i think you can get a sealant put on your teeth, to prevent anymore. good luck!~
Reply:Not a lot of Orange Juice... Not a lot of ice cream... not a lot of gum... Have fluoride in your water.
Reply:there is a dental disease called peridontal disease and it affects teeth without you being able to control it.

go to your dentist and ask for an oral evaluation on what the cause could be.

that would probably be your best best.

you also need LOTS of calcium and water doesnt have flouride or calcium :(
Reply:dont eat too much sweets or candies and junk food or your teeth will be rotten and nasty and if you smile, someone might think you might look like a crackhead from the street. so be careful and eat good food and check your dentist and see if they can help you.
Reply:Has our dentist not told you your brushing your teeth tooooo much?

Morning noon night used to be to rule of thumb when I was girl, how much have they changed that? and when? I think you may be making your teeth weak by brushing so much and so you make the cavitites. Don't know not a dentist, but I would ask one.

Reply:my dentist told me that basically the teeth you get is quite hereditary - so if you Mom had bad teeth, you may also. he also said you should not brush them too much or it causes the enamel to become too thin and can allow cavities to come easily - you can buy a new toothpaste that strengthens the enamel - or you can have a fake enamel cover put on your teeth (though costs about $80 per tooth).
Reply:All of the other answers are valid. But keep in mind that some people are simply more apt to get cavities than others. It is just in your gene pool.
Reply:probably because u don't brush HARD enough. get a hard brush rather than soft and you'll be just fine.
Reply:You should brush your teeth no more than twice a day. You will injure your gums if you keep up this level of brushing.

Also, you should floss once a day. This will go a long way towards preventing further decay.

With this number of cavities on those few teeth, it's wonder that those teeth aren't practically hollowed-out!

If you otherwise have healthy eating habits, you could be one of those unfortunate people with thin enamel (I'm guessing).
Reply:Brush teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and don't eat sugary food. From http://aches.in/preventtoothache.html
Reply:Some times it's also genetics. You might want to consider changing your dentist. Are you sure your seeing some one who's honest and wont take you for your money? It happened to me and there are plenty out there who claims you have a cavity but the truth is you don't. Be wear!
