Im getting my Cavities removed on Nov 3 and this is my first time ever getting a Cavity...All my Cavities are on my Baby Teeth so will the Dentist Fill it in or Pull it out???
and will it hurt?
Cavities??? this is important!?
The way you wrote this is really cute.... lol. But anyways, if you have a lot of cavities on baby teeth your dentist will probably just fill the most important ones first. I doubt your dentist has intentions of pulling any out because some of them probably aren't meant to fall out for another few years (depending on how old you are), and pulling them out isn't good for when the adult teeth need to come in.
Hopefully they're just small cavities that need to be filled and you should just keep yourself calm and not get too worked up over it! The beginning of the fillings might sound just a bit like a louder noise but it shouldn't really hurt! It sounds almost like the polisher (if you've been to the dentist for cleanings before it's like a little cup that cleans your teeth with a "polish", which is like toothpaste), so it's just cleaning out the cavity and then filling it. As soon as the "noise" part is over the rest of it is super easy, don't worry!!
But to prevent cavities in the future you should ask your dentist how to brush your teeth better, and make sure you brush in the morning and night!! You want to take care of your teeth now so that when you're older your adult teeth will be all nice and healthy!
Reply:The dentist will fill them most likley unless your permanent teeth are about ready to come through. Not sure what he saw on the x-rays as you didn't post that info. No it doesn't hurt to get cavities filled. They will numb your mouth first.
Reply:You'll be fine, and if it is a procedure that is painful they will give you nitrous oxide or pain medication. Its not bad and no I don't think they will pull it out unless your adult teeth are going to come in soon.
Reply:Sighhhh....why oh WHY can't dentists just explain all this to patients (especially young ones!) BEFORE their appointments? it's not hard! geesh.
If you are 10 or 12 or so, the baby teeth may be "on their way out" and pulling them is no big deal. However, if you're like 8 or so, you need those teeth to hold the space while you wait for the adult teeth to come in between your adult front teeth and your 6-year-molars.
if you take them out too soon, it actually takes LONGER for the adult teeth to come in, an dthen all the teeth can get crooked in teh mean time.
When the dentist does a filling, they removed the decay (what some call "cavities") w/ a handpiece (some call a "drill") one of them is fast and whiny and sprays air and water. the other is slower and "bumpy" and causes more vibrations.
If the decay is small, they can do this without any anesthetic (numbing) cuz small decay is limited to the enamel of the tooth and enamel is like your hair or fingernails...you can cut it and there's no nerve, so no pain! however, if more decay is there, they may numb you first. This is a pinchy feeling during an injection, and isn't a lot of fun, but less painful than getting ears pierced etc.... also, they put a gel on the gums to numb it before they inject anything.
Don't worry, and if you still have quesitons, make them answer before they do anything! you (or your mom or your insurance!) are PAYing for the service so they owe you answers!!
Reply:first off your not getting them removed they are being filled to prevent the spreading. As to having them pulled out it is based on the size of the cavity and location your dentist should let you know before hand. To answer about will it hurt first with it being a baby tooth there are no roots to cause much pain and the main thing before your tooth is pulled they will numb your gum and wont feel a thing. As for anxiety if you are nervous your dentist can give you a mild sedative to calm you down.
Reply:Fillings are not painful. Your mouth will be numbed and cavities will be cleaned out and filled with either a white or silver filling. Your mouth will remain numb for a while following you appointment. It is important that you do not chew on your cheek or tongue.
If primary teeth need to be extracted, the permanent tooth is either in place or a space maintainer will be put in. This will hold the space open until the permanent tooth is ready to come in.
You didn't mention your age. Ask the dentist or his assistant the proper way to clean your mouth so you can eliminate cavities in the future.
