Haven't seen dentist in 10 yrs, 4 cavities, how are they taken care of?

I'm 22 and I just now have dental insurance so I will be going soon. Although, I am embarassed (havent seen a dentist since I was 12) plus I have several cavities. The thing is the cavities are at the root of the teeth (the part closest to my gums).. is that worse? How are these taken care of?

First of all, don't be embarassed. I'm positive the dentist has seen much worse cases.

They will probably take care of your teeth by doing root canals since the cavities have reached the roots of your teeth. But only your dentist can tell you what they'll do.

I'm not sure if they can all be done in one visit, but I'm sure the price wouldn't be different if you had them done in one visit, or four.

But please, do not go to Mexico as the person aboved mentioned.

Good luck to you.
Reply:Easier to get beer from stone than to get all your dental treatment done in one go. There is a good side, in that 10years, dentist drill has become almost soundless and painless.

Good luck
Reply:don't be embarressed they have seen worse. they may need to do some root canals on some of the teeth. no worries if you have good insurance and a good dentist they will usually make a payment plan for you
Reply:by going to the dentist!

if you keep putting it off they'll keep getting worse and you'll get more
Reply:Hi! first of all you may find a very good dentist, they all suggest different things and treatments, (business) second, most insurances cover only $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 with 1 or 2 free cleaning a year. third, every visit will be approx $350.00 of which the insurance will cover about $280.00 and the rest is on you until you spend your benefits, after you spend them all, you may wait to the next year for more benefits or keep up with the treatment on your own, remember that the dentist don't care about your status, they will suggest all kind of solutions but is up to you to take what the offer you, with 4 cavities you may end up paying about $2,000.00 maybe more. but if you don't start now, you might end up using straws or eating yogurt very soon.
Reply:they should be able to fill those without a problem. i recommend a biologic dentist and if you are concerned about cost, go to mexico. yes, they will do it all at once, but not in the states, not generally.
Reply:I wouldn't have them all filled in one visit, but that's just me. Four cavities, depending on where they all are, would be very painful to fill all at once. Because you say some of them are down into the root, a root canal seems like a very good possibility. I can't advise you on how it is because I've never had one, but your best bet is to just speak to the dentist about your options and plans for treatment. Waiting any longer will cause you to lose those chompers! But good for you for finally getting to a dentist. Hope everything works out for you.
