I have 4 cavities!?!?!?

The dental assistant said she couldn't understand it since everything has been in good shape for the last 5 years, my ex-rays are fine, and I had great home care (very little to no plaque or tartar build-up). I am 33 and had maybe 2 or 3 cavities at about 23 or 24 years old. She also asked what has changed in my diet (I don't eat hard candies or drink soda)... and then she asked if I might be bulimic (I'm definitely not). Are there any obvious reasons or foods that might be causing this? I'm devastated. She also suggested that lemon might do this... so maybe no more lemon in my water? I always diluted my lemon... I'm just not sure what to do to keep this from happening again and my dentist really didn't have any suggestions. Thanks...

Reply:Brush 3 times a day, floss when u feel the need to, stay away from sugars, candies, lemons, and dark sodas [they build up tarter %26amp; plaque]

Reply:Brush and floss after every meal. Do you use a fluoride toothpaste? Your dentist can give you fluoride treatments. Lemon is very bad for your teeth.
Reply:Its not true tat only sweet stuff n lemon n soda drinks cause cavities. the formation of decay is multifactorial which means tat other things play a part in a person gettin decay. the main reason is the type of bacteria which cause tooth decay. some pple dont get decay even though their teeth is so dirty cos they hve less of the bacteria tat causes tooth decay. however some r prone to tooth decay cos they hve more of the bacteria. other factors is dry mouth or thick saliva. prevent it by drinkin more water. another reason could b tat ur frequency of intake of food is more which would hve ur mouth acidic for a prolonged period. the acid produced by the bacteria is the cause of decay as it causes demineralisation. Stick wif regular meal times instead of snacking frequently. some pple r prone to decay also because their tooth is hypoplastic, to help strengthen the enamel, use fluoridated toothpaste. on top of all these measures, its also important tat u brush ur teeth atleast 2x a day most importantly at nite b4 goin to bed. plus floss ur teeth atleast once a day. also go for ur regular dental check ups as u wont b able to identify ur oral health problems n we r a partner in helping u maintain ur oral health. :-)
Reply:I believe nutrition is the answer. Have you had your vitamin D levels checked? Recent studies show most Americans are deficient in this crucial vitamin which is need to absorb calcium . Spend more time in the sun or buy some of Carlson's Cod Liver Oil. You may also want to consider taking a good calcium supplement along with the Vitamin D. Since milk is pasteurized and homogonized, it makes calcium harder to absorb. Vitamin K works along with calcium and vitamin D to help glue in the calcium in the bones and most people don't get enough vitamin K either. Eat more dark green leafy vegetables for this vitamin. Cut down sugar as it leeches calcium out of the bones.
Reply:It just happens as we get older. Drinking plan water after drinking soda or eating candy is always good to do. Eat gum more often. Also check if you have fluoride in your water. Many areas stop adding it to the drinking water a fluoride rinse after brushing might help. My DH who always had good teeth had his teeth sealed like the dentists often do for children. That really made a difference as well.
