I have excellent dental hygiene..can I still get cavities?

The last I time I went to the dentist was around Feb-March, I had gotten two cavities filled. He said that was it and I didnt have to come back until its time for my next check up. Could a cavity have developed over that time and if I have really good dental hygiene (I brush after eating everything), how does that affect cavities?

*Also, I do have a quite a sweet tooth..how does that factor in?

Thanks for any help!

Even if you have excellent dental hygiene, if you ruin it, you could develop numerous cavities. The only way to ensure and refrain cavity development is to restrict the number of sweet food you eat (this is where you will have to battle that sweet tooth of yours) and maintain your excellent dental hygiene.

Keep it going! You've got the degree of excellent hygiene that many of us only wish we had!
Reply:If you brush "after eating everything" you are spending a lot of time in the bathroom! With that kind of regimen you should be okay.

Getting cavities depends on a lot of factors but one of them is how much sugar intake you have and how long it stays in the mouth. Chewing gum is one of the worst things you can do as well as sipping on soft drinks. If you are going to drink a soda...drink it and rinse your mouth. No sipping all day. Chewing sugar free gum will help and start a flossing habit. Flossing is the only way to remove bacteria that can cause cavities between the teeth.
