How do dentists fill cavities inbetween your teeth that are visible?

I am worried that I have some cavities further back in my smile, but they are still visible. I am wondering if there is something that can be done that will look nice cosmetically. Not sure the technical names of the teeth, but there is one inbetween my canine tooth and the bicuspid behind it.

The dentist can place a Composite restoration, they will color match the filling material with your actual teeth color. After they reomve the decay the Dentist will place a Matrix band around your tooth this helps to close the space and hold the material while it is being light cured,After the light curing (Which hardens the material) the Dentist will remove the band an smooth and polish the filling. However If there is to much decay you may need to have a crown placed. This procedure envolves removing all the decay and then put a build-up in the tooth, the tooth is then prepped ( cut down ) and an impression will be taken of the prep, and then sent to a lab and a crown will be made to specifically fit your tooth, this usually takes 2-3 weeks to get the crown back, The Dentist will place a temporary crown to wear until the crown gets back from the Lab. The dentist will then put in the crown and check your bite and if you are happy with the color they cement it permanetly onto the prep. It should look exactly like a regular tooth.

Reply:I have a filled cavity between my top two front teeth. First they drill out the cavity. Then they put a device around your tooth, a clamp like thing and they start filling your cleaned area. Its now white and you can still floss between them. Hope this helps. Did I mention they remove the clamp thingy.

Main way they fix teeth is with that grey or silver filling stuff.


Second way is to go with gold caps.


Third way is to go with Porcelain caps.


If enamel finishing is available I am not aware of it and I have been given several options like this one that you face .


As I said,alot of it depends on how much you can afford.
Reply:Well ,most of the times the fillings in the teeth which are visible, are done with a tooth coloured material (it's technically called Composite filling).Most of the times it looks really nice once it's done and finished properly.But one needs to take good care of his/her teeth afterwards,to not to let caries occur in the tooth again. Decay can progress under these fillings ,in case you happen not to take good care by brushing and flossing regularly.


I would really suggest you to go ahead and get one done ASAP to avoid root canals in those teeth with cavities.
Reply:Ask the dentist for white fillings. Metal fillings are harmful and very toxic. I worked as a dental assistant for a couple of years and they wouldn't let us throw it away in the trash but we were allowed to put into peoples mouths...figure that.





Good luck, almost anything can be done in dentistry, as long as you got the money. If you don't then expect the dentist to push you aside, sad but true.
Reply:Today I had to have decay in between 2 molars taken care of. The decay was below the gum line, so he took a tool called a matrix to push the gum down lower to get to all the decay, remove the discoloration, and use white composite, I hope dentists still aren't using the silver analgam. I also hads some decay in between some of my top front teeth. I was scared b/c they are right in the front, but as long as they use the white it is not noticeable.
