Why don't i get cavities?

i don't usually brush my teeth, but i never got a cavity once. My teeth are healthy. My brother on the other hand ALWAYS brushes his teeth. He gets cavities a lot. Why is this?

Why don't i get cavities?
Some peoples teeth have stronger enamel. If I were you, you should start brushing your teeth, because sooner or later you will get a cavity, and getting fillings sucks!!
Reply:Don't kiss your brother. There is one type of bacteria that is particularly associated with getting cavities (Strep mutans) and SOME lucky people just don't seem to have it in their mouths.

Just because you don't get cavities doesn't mean that you can get away without brushing your teeth, by the way... More teeth are lost due to gum problems and you won't get away with poor oral hygiene for the rest of your life.
Reply:Brush your teeth eventually it will catch up to you. I thought I was invincible too. Now I have 3 root canals 30 fillings and currently my face is blown up like a baloon from a bad root canal. THIS IS ALL AFTER I STARTED BRUSHING REGULARLY. Not brushing now will eventually give you teh same.
Reply:Maybe you got the good genes and he got the bad ones.

Its the same thing for me and my sister. My mom had dentures at the age of 17, and I am only 28, and want to get some too.

My sister has maybe had a few cavities, two full term pregnancies, etc, and never had any major issues.

Me, I have had well over 40 fillings, and am in need of a few root canals, also. I have several family members with great teeth and some who just get dentures.. ugh.. genes, right?

It could also have to do with soda and other sugar consumption, or possibly that your brother has heart disease or some other underlying problem. I would ask him to ask his doctor/ dentist if his tooth decay might indicate an underlying problem, and if so, what. (just in case)

Good luck to him. =)
